Chief Executive Officer                                    

– Honor Wilson-Fletcher MBE

Honor joined as CEO in February 2016. She was previously CEO for 6 years at Charity the Aldridge Foundation where she helped establish 12 state schools in some of the most deprived parts of England – all with a focus on entrepreneurship and employability.

Previous roles include Directorships at the National Literacy Trust, Southbank Centre, the British Museum, Transworld and Hodder Children’s Books. She worked in publishing in various roles at Penguin Books, Waterstone’s and with BOL.com. She started two businesses of her own in her twenties. She continues to serve as a trustee or adviser for a range of charitable, not-for-profit and school boards.

Honor lives in the South Downs, spends a silly amount of time commuting and can therefore justify having virtually no pastimes except for eating, walking and enjoying the peace and quiet when she gets home.

Head of Expeditions and Strategic Operations

– Caroline Hodges

After completing a degree in Philosophy at UCL, Caroline followed her passion for travel into a career in the Gap Year and Adventure Travel industry.

Over the past 5 years Caroline has done everything from marketing summer camps in the United States to setting up volunteer programmes in Kenya but a main theme throughout her work has been supporting disadvantaged young people to take up challenging and educational experiences overseas.

Caroline joined British Exploring in September 2010 as manager of the British Exploring Outreach programme – The Dangoor Next Generation Programme and is now Head of Expeditions and Strategic Operations.

Head of Expedition Recruitment & Partnerships

– Matt Hodgson

Matt joined British Exploring in 2015 bringing with him a wealth of experience in the youth travel market. Over 17 years he has worked multiple roles within the adventure travel industry.

Matt made the switch to British Exploring to fulfil a desire to work more closely with young people and in a charity setting. As a passionate believer in the unique power of challenging overseas travel to facilitate personal development he is very much at home in the British Exploring office.

He is responsible for leading the The Recruitment and Partnerships team and ensuring that as many young people as possible hear about the incredible expeditions that British Exploring offer.

Away from the office he takes any opportunity to travel as well as enjoying Tennis, Trekking and Lego.

Expeditions and Strategic Operations Manager

- Tom Blindell

Tom joined British Exploring in 2013 to further a career in outdoor education and support young people to access the hugely beneficial experiences that expeditions can offer. A Sport Science & Outdoor Activities graduate, Tom brings with him a wealth of education experience from both school and expedition sectors and significant field leadership experience in Latin America and Africa particularly.

With much of his childhood spent joining the school expeditions his father ran all over the UK and Europe, Tom has been brought up on the benefits of outdoor learning and is a strong believer in the positive impact challenging expeditions can have on personal development. As a key member of the Expeditions Team, Tom takes a strategic lead on the planning and delivery of a number of our expeditions. He is responsible for the design and management of many of our operational processes, ensuring that our expeditions meet our organisational aims, and are delivered to the highest standard.

Despite living in London, he spends as much time as he can in the outdoors - mountaineering, white water kayaking, climbing and adventure racing, whilst also enjoying tennis, cycling, football and triathlons closer to home.

Expedition Training and leadership Advisor

- James Dyer

James joined British Exploring at Operations Manager in 2011. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Leading Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and has a long career in expedition leadership and management. James has since taken on the role of Expedition Training and leadership Advisor and is responsible for advising on appropriate leadership recruitment and skills for our trainee leaders and Leaders, as well as the development of leadership training resources. He enjoys mountaineering, mountain biking, canoeing, and the occasional game of golf

Senior Expeditions Coordinator                                        

– Molly Singleton

Molly joined British Exploring in 2015 and is one of our Expedition Coordinator's . She spent the preceding years studying adventure sports management and working for youth charities in the UK and Australia.

Molly is involved in all aspects of planning and organising the UK and overseas activities of our Expeditions, including the recruitment of leaders and participants, event logistics and kit management.

Molly loves travelling, climbing, and walking and scrambling in the hills.

Executive Assistant                                                                

– Laura Kinnunen

Laura absolutely believes in the transformative power of exploration and overseas experience on the development of young people, and was therefore over the moon to have been able to escape the City and the grey suits to join British Exploring in December 2015. At British Exploring Laura looks after the day to day finance matters, helps Honor, our CEO, to keep to her busy schedule and helps out with the Programmes team whenever possible!

Having grown up in Central Finland surrounded by lakes and forests as far as the eye could see, Laura has loved being outdoors exploring her surroundings from an early age. Having studied dance and languages in high school, Laura moved to the UK to study English and Japanese at university. An exchange year to Japan in 2001 lead to her living and working in rural Japan as high school English teacher, and during her 5 years there Laura took every opportunity to travel and explore Japan as well as backpacked extensively around South East Asia.

In her spare time, Laura teaches yoga and Nordic Walking helping inactive adults to discover the joy of being active outdoors, dances to 70s disco, loves cycling around London, and in her heart of hearts yearns to be in the mountains.

Expedition Coordinator                                   

- Megan Daly

Megan joined British Exploring in September 2015 as the Communications Assistant within the Marketing Team, having graduated that year from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Geography which included a year abroad in Australia. When the opportunity arose she applied to join our Expeditions team and is now one of our Expedition Coordinator's.

Megan is passionate about expeditions and youth development, and truly believes in the positive impacts that outdoor adventures can have on young people, enabling them to fulfil their potential and lead positive lives in the future. Outside of work Megan enjoys scuba diving, photography, running and all things travel/adventure related. She is also a Programme Volunteer for the Youth Adventure Trust.

Explorer Recruitment Officer                                      

– Beau Zilesnick

Beau joined British Exploring in 2014 as Communications Assistant and is now Schools Coordinator. Before joining British Exploring he studied Geography at the University of Exeter. He is responsible for organising and promoting the Society to schools around the UK.

He has most recently returned from expedition with us as a leader in the Peruvian Amazon; outside of work he enjoys cycling, travelling and photography.

Digital Marketing Specialist                           

– Steve Jones

Steve joined British Exploring in June 2016 as the team’s Digital Marketing Specialist. Since graduating from Swansea University in 2012 with a MA in Digital Media, Steve has put his digital skills to use through a variety of marketing roles, including working on European funded projects, a sports marketing agency and a local council’s leisure and culture team.

Having completed his own self-organised expeditions for a charitable cause, including a 3 month cycling, hiking and canoeing challenge in South America, Steve knows through his own experiences the value of exploring as a means for personal development for young people and is excited to be in a position to be able to support others doing the same.

In his free time Steve enjoys running, trekking, cycling and is always looking for his next challenge.

Fundraising Consultant                        

– Jackie Kerr              

Jackie began working for British Exploring in 2005. She raises funds for the Society, mainly though charitable trusts, especially bursary funding to help explorers to take part in an expedition. Jackie began her fundraising career with the NSPCC. After 9 years and 2 children Jackie left to work with organisations including Tommy’s Campaign, The Prince’s Trust, Chichester Cathedral Appeal and Macmillan.

Jackie travelled alone throughout the Far East, India and Australia before internet and mobile communications. She became a committed supporter of our youth development work following her daughter, Catherine’s expedition to Svalbard in 2004. More recently, Catherine married another young explorer and leader. Jackie’s husband, Michael has been a leader and mentor on the Dangoor Next Generation Programme since 2007.

Jackie visited Svalbard in 2007 and 2008 on the advance party and continues her less adventurous travels to the islands of Corsica, Sicily and Menorca. Next stop – Brunei.

Expedition Administration Officer                                                   

Silvana Rosetti

Silvana recently joined British Exploring as our Expedition Administration Officer. She brings a wealth of experience in data management and administrative processes. Silvana used to guide groups of motorcycle riders across the globe in the most challenging environments, completing expeditions of up to four months. She is passionate about travelling in remote places and discovering new hidden corners of the world.

After a decade of travelling around the world she chose to settle down in London. In her spare time she enjoys music concerts very much, especially opera, and hiking around the UK and Europe. Still with itchy feet she travels often, Argentina is where she calls home and where she indulges in amazing asados (barbecues) with her family.

Marketing Assistant                                  

Anieye Ekanem

Anieye joined the British Exploring society in September 2016 as Marketing Assistant. She is planning to study Corporate Psychology at Sussex university. She has recently finished A-Level: Biology, Philosophy and Drama. She attended Success for Life for three years, a company that empowers students to become successful in life through numerous workshops, for example Networking and Time Management workshop. She also took part in the Challenge where she organised a sports program for Special needs children age 4-9.

Her main hobbies include acting and running. She has been in numerous productions and participated in the Virgin Mini marathon three times.

Archivist Assistant                                  

– Tony Harpur

Tony Harpur joined British Exploring as Archivist Assistant in 2014. He worked as an oil trader and Arabist in the oil industry for Shell, BP and Vitol for 33 years. Since retiring in 2011, he has gained a Mountain Leader qualification and been a leader on four expeditions.

Tony works one afternoon per week supporting the Archivist. Additionally, he volunteers with Ramblers Worldwide Holidays by organising skiing and walking holidays. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, running, skiing, chess and reading.

Governance Manager                                                   

Deborah Seddon

Deborah joined as volunteer Governance Manager in June 2016. Her previous roles span education, communications and, most recently, professional competence and standards. She was Head of Policy and Standards at the Engineering Council until May 2016 and continues there on a part-time basis. In 2013, she led the pan-profession reviews of engineering competence and degree standards, and was responsible for guidance principles for professionals on sustainability, risk, ethics and whistleblowing. Prior to this, Deborah held positions at the Architects Registration Board, the sustainability think-tank Forum for the Future, and the Medical Research Council, all concerned with education or practice.

Deborah has an honours degree in Biological Sciences and an MA in Higher and Professional Education. She was Chair of governors at a SW London primary school and is currently a lay member of the UK's Intellectual Property Regulation Board.

Deborah is passionate about the environment, tries to live as sustainably as possible, is a keen gardener, enjoys the outdoors as well as a wide range of cultural offerings in London.

Expedition Assistant                                  

- Ashley Kerr

Ashley joined the British Exploring Society in 2016 as Operations Assistant with hope to increase her knowledge and experience in the field. Ashley works closely with James and Tom, assisting them in the development of expeditions. Ashley is really excited about being a part of team and helping them to be successful in their aim to empower young people. She believes that this is a really important for young people to feel empowered and develop the skills to make an impact on today’s society.

Some of her hobbies include Dancing, Singing and playing sports. Last year Ashley along with her team mate won the Next Big Thing business competition with their ideas for a musical teddy bear; gaining them a £1000 investment for their idea. She also completed the Goal Getters programme with The Chelsea Football Foundation and Deutsche Bank; allowing her to develop her business and football skills with the Chelsea Ladies football team and employees at Deutsche Bank.

Archivist                                                   

– Justin Warwick

Justin joined British Exploring's office team in 2003 and was appointed Archivist in 2006. Justin was also a member of the 1954 Quebec Expedition. Justin studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College, became a Chartered Engineer following Post Graduate Studies. Upon retirement in 2003 he began a part-time History of Science M.Sc at Imperial College.

Justin has an enjoyable task digitising the archives and supervising the construction of the Archives website. In his spare time he enjoys sailing, travelling, eating good food and spending time with his granddaughter.

Expedition Assistant                             

- Adanna Ekene-Micah

Adana joined British Exploring Society in September 2016 as a Programmes Assistant. She spent the past two years participating in a wide range of voluntary work stretching from domestic work to social media (British Heart Foundation and Exposure respectively). She has the hope of empowering young people through working within a team to deliver inspiring projects.

Her role consists of assisting with the oversight of planning and organising activities, training sessions and kit management. She loves climbing, swimming and of course exploring different means of adventure.

Editor                                                  

Suzy Bibko

Suzy joined British Exploring in October 2016, bringing with her a wealth of publishing and charitable experience. For the past 20 years, she has worked in the legal and business publishing field, including as Executive Editor for the American Bar Association and Editor-in-Chief of Financial Publishing for Campden Wealth; she currently works part-time for Fitch Ratings.

In the charitable sector, she has been a member of the Junior League of London since 2002, which aims to eliminate poverty and effects in London. She has served as their Communications Director and President, and also as a Trustee for several years. Suzy has also served as a Trustee for Cat Action Trust 1977; volunteer interim marketing director for Thames 21, London’s leading waterways charity; a volunteer for Over the Wall, which provides camps for children with life-limiting illnesses; and a voluntary swimming instructor for disabled adults in London’s Borough of Camden.

Although she’s been living in London for the past 15 years and loves a good country ramble and sheep sighting, Suzy spends much of her holiday time back in her native US on Florida’s Gulf Coast. She loves swimming and taking the kayak out to spot manatees, dolphins, sea turtles and sea birds.
