Honor Wilson-Fletcher MBE - Chief Executive Officer

Honor joined British Exploring Society as CEO in February 2016. She was previously CEO for 6 years at the Aldridge Foundation where she helped establish 12 state schools in some of the most deprived parts of England. This is when she had her first opportunity to take part in, and see the positive impact of, challenging overseas adventures with young people.

Caroline Hodges - Head of Expeditions and Strategic Operations

Caroline joined British Exploring in September 2010 as Manager of the British Exploring Outreach programme – The Dangoor Next Generation Programme – and is now Head of Expeditions and Strategic Operations.

James Dyer - Expedition Training and Leadership Advisor

James joined British Exploring as Operations Manager in 2011. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Leading Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and has a long career in expedition leadership and management. James has since taken on the role of Expedition Training and leadership Advisor and is responsible for advising on appropriate leadership recruitment and skills for our trainee leaders and Leaders, as well as the development of leadership training resources.

Justin Warwick - Archivist

Justin joined British Exploring Society's office team in 2003 and was appointed Archivist in 2006. Justin was also a member of the 1954 Quebec Expedition. Justin studied Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College, became a Chartered Engineer following Post Graduate Studies. Upon retirement in 2003 he began a part-time History of Science MSc at Imperial College.

Tony Harpur - Archivist Assistant

Tony Harpur joined British Exploring as Archivist Assistant in 2014. He worked as an oil trader and Arabist in the oil industry for Shell, BP and Vitol for 33 years. Since retiring in 2011, he has gained a Mountain Leader qualification and been a Leader on a number of expeditions.

Laura Kinnunen - Finance Officer

Laura absolutely believes in the transformative power of exploration and overseas experience on the development of young people, and was therefore over the moon to have been able to escape the city and grey suits to join our team in December 2015. At British Exploring Society Laura looks after the day to day finance matters.

Sam Drawbridge - Membership Officer

Sam joined British Exploring Society as Membership Officer in September 2018, having previously worked in the corporate world for a number of years and most recently at an international development charity. His background is in delivering marketing and member communications.

Katherine Maundrell - Expedition Administration Officer

Katherine had her first taste of expeditions and their developmental value in Namibia, 2005. Since that time she has consistently been on the lookout for the next adventure, be that coral reef surveying, desert trekking or canoe paddling. She joined British Exploring Society in October 2018 and hopes that she can facilitate for others the kind of challenging learning opportunities she has herself been lucky enough to experience.

Kate Suart - Head of Community, Impact and Systems

Kate joined British Exploring Society as our Head of Recruitment and Engagement at the beginning of 2019. Her previous roles involved helping young people develop the key skills needed for a successful future and connecting them with opportunities in the financial services. She is passionate about working with young people from less advantaged backgrounds and ensuring they have access to opportunities that can change their lives.

Clover Heather - Project & Innovation Manager

Clover joined the team as our Project & Innovations Manager in 2019. She has 20 years of experience as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer, specifying, developing and integrating systems for companies producing a wide range of products from plasters to spacecraft. This role combines those skills with her passion for supporting young adults.

Kelley Parfitt - Trusts Manager

Kelley joined British Exploring Society as our Trusts Manager in August 2019. She is a member of the Institute of Fundraising and has an MA in Conflict, Development and Security Studies. After completing a graduate placement with Oxfam Campaigns in 1999, she has spent the past twenty years in PR, marketing and fundraising manager roles mainly with international development charities as well as Scope and Women’s Aid.

Holly Burns - Explorer Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator

Holly joined British Exploring Society in Summer 2019 as Explorer Recruitment and Engagement Coordinator. An Adventure Tourism Management graduate, Holly’s previous roles have included working as a Youth Worker and Youth Development Officer in the Scottish Highlands and teaching snowboarding around Europe and New Zealand. Holly is passionate about working with young people in the outdoor industry and believes that every young person should be entitled to the same opportunities no matter their background.

Magdalina Tromans - Finance Manager

Maggie joined British Exploring Society in September 2019 after 3 years as Finance Manager at Kensington Aldridge Academy. Previous to that, she gained finance, governance and consulting experience in a variety of roles in the private sector. She volunteers in various capacities at her church and is a governor at a local secondary school, as well as a trustee of a small London charity supporting the elderly. In the summer, she enjoys the beautiful mountains and the seaside in her native Bulgaria.

Olivia Evans-Walcott - Executive Assistant

Liv joined British Exploring Society in November 2019 as Personal Assistant to Honor, our CEO, and Caroline, our Head of Expeditions and Strategic Operations. Having travelled to Zambia and Botswana for a month on a charity project in 2014, Liv believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience countries that are different from their norm. Since then, Liv has gained a Law degree and been to many countries from Cuba and Croatia to Mexico and Turkey.

Rebecca Bloomfield - Marketing and Digital Coordinator

Rebecca joined British Exploring Society in January 2020 after completing an MSc in Science Communication at Imperial College. She has a BSc in Wildlife Conservation, through which she carried out fieldwork in Borneo surveying biodiversity in the tropical rainforest and oil palm plantations. Previously, she lived in Malawi where she worked in communications for a wildlife charity.

Daisy Bareham - Expeditions Coordinator

Daisy joined British Exploring Society in March 2020 as an Expeditions Coordinator. She took part in an expedition to Costa Rica at 19, and has since completed volunteering placements in India, Tanzania and Bulgaria. She has a background in youth programme delivery, including 3 years of professional experience coordinating volunteers at a sustainable development charity. She is passionate about supporting and empowering young people in experiential learning environments.

Nick Nichol - Expedition Manager

Nick joined British Exploring Society as Expedition Manager in April 2020. He joins BES having spent the last 9 years in International Humanitarian Response with NGOs, which has taken him all over the world. He has a strong passion for the mountains and a belief in their ability to empower and support personal development.

Catherine Cox - Freelance Fundraiser

Catherine has worked as a Freelance Fundraiser for British Exploring Society since June 2020. She has spent the past twelve years raising funds to help the most disadvantaged children and young people in the UK and, prior to that, spent two winter seasons living and working in the French Alps and three months exploring the Mesoamerican Reef as a Divemaster in Honduras. A lover of water, Catherine enjoys swimming the lakes and rivers of the UK and feels passionate about sharing the benefits that total immersion in the wild can bring.

Amy-Leigh Hatton - Fundraising Officer

Amy-Leigh has spent the past four years fundraising to create accessible educational opportunities, and delivering youth development programmes. Having spent three months volunteering in Kenya in 2015, she understands how truly transformative challenging ourselves can be. She believes that exploration helps us to discover so much about ourselves, not just the world around us, and she is therefore dedicated to ensuring our opportunities are accessible to all young people, regardless of their financial background.
