Leaving a gift in your Will is a powerful way to show your commitment to transforming the lives of future generations - and it costs you nothing right now.

A gift in your Will can make a vital difference to our future work

A gift of any size, will help ensure future generations ‘Find their Fire’. There are different types of gifts you can leave in your Will. The most common ones are:

Residuary Gifts

Leaving a share, or sometimes all, of an estate is known as a residuary gift. Residuary gifts keep up with inflation, so you may not need to update your Will in the future.

Pecuniary Gifts

A pecuniary gift is a specific sum of money. Over time inflation can reduce the value of this type of gift, so it’s worth reviewing your Will from time to time.

Specific Gifts

These are particular items, such as a property, stocks and shares, furniture or jewellery. Anything that’s of financial value to you.

Leaving a gift in your Will is simple

Making a Will is your opportunity to ensure that your loved-ones, and particular causes you care about, are looked after. A solicitor or an experienced Will writer will help you draw up or amend your Will to reflect your wishes, and ensure they are carried out as you wish.

If you decide to leave a gift to British Exploring Society, it’s important you include the following details in your Will to ensure your gift reaches us.

Charity Name: British Exploring Society
Charity Number: 802196
Charity Address: 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR

Inheritance Tax

Currently, charitable gifts left in your Will are taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated and can also reduce your Inheritance Tax, if 10% or more of your estate is left to charity.
