After a brief pause, in November we will be launching a new chapter in our Wildestan programming – Wildestan Antarctica.
What is Wildestan? Wildestan is an online programme that provides rich, rewarding learning and unforgettable access to unique environments that are generally the preserve of scientists and the most affluent visitors. It allows Young Adventurers to explore wild places directly from their own homes and encourages them to get outdoors and explore their local area. They are ‘transported’ to places in the world that we are unable to physically access because of excessive risk, cost or environmental impact.
This year’s programme will have a focus on Antarctica and will be run in partnership with the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, who are currently recruiting a project producer for the programme.
Through participation in Wildestan Antarctica, Young Adventurers gain insight on how to survive and thrive in remote and wild outdoor environments, with online sessions delivered by Wildestan Experts at the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust located at Port Lockroy Antarctica. The subject matter will then be contextualised by Wildestan Experts in the UK, where Young Adventurers are encouraged to put their learning into practice and explore the outdoors on their doorstep.
Applications for the programme will open in one month. Spaces are limited, so if you know a young person aged 14-17 who might be interested please do encourage them to apply once we open.
If you would like to find out more about the programme or would like to help us by supporting it as a Wildestan Expert or funder, we would love to hear from you.
