MEASURING OUR IMPACT
It’s important that we can demonstrate to everyone who contributes to our work how, together, we are making a real difference and helping more young people unlock their self-belief.
We take young people into wild and unfamiliar environments, equally alien to all of them, and away from their support networks.
Navigating rivers, climbing mountains, and exploring virtual landscapes can all provide physical and emotional challenges that build resilience, confidence, and self-awareness.
Working in Fires (groups), young people design their own journeys, make collective decisions, and learn to navigate landscapes and relationships – developing communication, negotiation, and risk management skills in the real world. Purposeful adventure gives young people the opportunity to grow in independence, to support one another, and to realise their own worth and potential.

By occupying the best classrooms on Earth, we provide a powerful alternative to traditional learning.
From wild cooking and water sampling to stargazing, time-lapse photography, and poetry, young people are encouraged to take ownership of practical tasks like ration planning or basecamp management and to follow their curiosity through autonomous enquiry – building academic and technical knowledge in field science, geography, and creative media. They return with a richer understanding of how to engage with and care for communities and for the natural world.
Extended time away from everyday life makes it possible for them to practice skills and embed the positive behaviours, all essential for lasting change. For many, especially those who’ve struggled in traditional classrooms, this shift in how they learn and see themselves is transformative.

Intentionally bringing together young people, who don’t know each other, into an unfamiliar environment, is a great leveller. We provide space and support to help them recognise and break ingrained patterns and foster new perspectives.
By being removed from the labels they carry in everyday life and placed in new environments with highly trained, empowering adult role models, young people are supported to identify strengths, set ambitious goals and shape their own future with purpose.
Through shared, stretching challenges, guided reflection, and opportunities to lead and make decisions, young people grow in confidence, resilience, and belief in what they’re capable of.
