Help build a stronger future for more young people.
Our Patrons Programme brings together committed individuals who want to make a tangible, life-long difference to young people. Each Patron provides transformational opportunities to those who can benefit most.
The sustained support of our Patrons makes the life-defining impact of our programmes more accessible
Many of the young people who would most benefit from our work lack the financial support to participate. With the support of philanthropists like you, we fully fund our programmes so that no young person needs to be left out, or behind.
To transform more young lives, we need to raise more funding from individuals who share our belief in the transformative power of intensive challenge and adventure.
Perhaps you’re one of them?
Our Patrons make an outstanding contribution to the life of British Exploring Society and to our beneficiaries. We ensure that there are opportunities for you to meet with and hear from the young people you support – and from the people who support them, too, like our inspirational Leaders.
We will also recognise your support in ways, which could include:
- Regular personal updates from our CEO on key strategic developments
- Regular reports, which capture and communicate the impact of your support through the experiences and feedback of the young people you have helped.
- Recognition in published materials, including our annual Impact Report
- Complimentary tickets to British Exploring Society events
- The opportunity to meet other like-minded members of our community who share your enthusiasm and commitment to our work
how your gift can make a difference
A gift of £1,000+
£1000 transforms a life. It could enable a young person to experience the life-defining impact of training, expedition and further support through participation on a British Exploring Society expedition in the UK.
A gift of £2,500+
£2,850 provides critical support for 3 expeditions. It could enable vital training for 10 doctors to become medical Leaders on expedition.
A gift of £5,000+
£5000 supports an entire expedition season. It could cover the cost of our 24-hour duty operation team over the summer expedition season; a vital safety requirement to keep us in communication with our Leaders and young explorers as they challenge themselves in the wilderness.

Wow! What an expedition. This has undoubtedly been the best 5 weeks of my life… summiting peaks, listening to the Dali Lama and going on glaciers. I have found all the Science really interesting and have learnt so much about the world and myself. I would recommend this to all young people as it really has been amazing.

The expedition has been a life changing adventure that I definitely didn't expect, with some incredible memories and some amazing people that won’t ever be forgotten.

I loved every minute of what was a life changing experience with some amazing people. I feel I learnt valuable skills and am now in a position to go on to do an awful lot more than I would otherwise have been able to.

‘Five weeks in the Zara Valley has been an experience of a lifetime. Trekking to the highest peaks, battling altitude, the crisp ice as we scaled the glaciers… What an incredible adventure. I am not only taking away memories, I am taking home a wider appreciation for the environment.’ Jennie, Himalaya 2017

It’s been life changing. This has been the first programme I've gone on that's worked for me and has really impacted me. I’d describe myself before expedition as a shy and nervous kind of person who worries a lot, but after finishing the expedition I've really changed and I now feel confident in myself and my ability to push my limits.
As we left the jungle, I realised what an experience I had just had. The bus journey was the first time in 3 weeks where I had been able to completely stop and reflect on my experience. I am certainly more willing to try new things and feel more confident in myself as a person.
